The Search for the Perfect Christmas Twiggy Tree

The weekend after Thanksgiving, our nieces Bailey and Cameron spent the night at our home. They are the cutest 10 year old twins but if you have kids, you know that kids this age have to be constantly entertained. So one of the fun things we decided to do is go hiking in our local lagoon called Agua Hedionda. This is the first time we actually hiked around this lagoon and as you know, aside from the beach, I'm not really a nature person. However...W O W!!! I was amazed at how beautiful this lagoon is and the best thing is it's located literally around the corner from our home.

While we were on our hike, I told the kids we were on a very important mission...we were searching for a few dried up tree branches or twigs so we can put up the perfect organic "Charlie Brown" Christmas tree. As soon as they heard that, it made our hike even more interesting!

From a distance, the lagoon doesn't look like much

But up close, it's really quite a serene environment

Bailey, who is also our God daughter and the tomboy of the two

For such a city girl like moi, it was an awesome feeling to be this close to nature, surrounded by tall grass and trees, birds and water, yet having that safety net that in just a few steps, I'll be back in concrete jungle :-)

Cameron is the girly girl and got treated to a pedicure after this hike

Looking from across the lagoon, the dreamy homes in the village of St. Malo

Looks like the girls found something dead next to these twigs

Collecting all the branches and twigs getting ready to head back

The twigs??? Here they are...

As I get it ready to add homemade Christmas ornaments which I will reveal in my next post

This year, I promised mon cheri that instead of buying yet more Christmas decor, I'll instead enjoy mixing up my existing decorations with some found organic and handmade elements. Can't wait to show you what I come up with!

P.S.
For Thanksgiving, mon cheri et moi gave back to our community by joining the South Oceanside Turkey Trot. For a small donation, it benefits the public schools in Oceanside and at the same time, we got our morning exercise.

The last leg of the 5K walk was very beautiful (sorry for the bad photo though)

We did it...here we are with our medals

Decor Inspiration for Christmas

Collecting a few ideas for Christmas and j'adore the simplicity of these Christmas decors. I know, I know, what looks simple probably took hours to create! Oh, but how I love them all!

Love this one...the blog is also fantastic (House of Smith's)!

Giving Thanks

I have beaucoup plenty to be thankful for this year and although this poem is a bit corny, I think it's deep and says it all for me:

For flowers that bloom about our feet;
For tender grass, so fresh, so sweet;

For song of bird, and hum of bee;

For all things fair we hear or see,

Father in heaven, we thank Thee!

~Ralph Waldo Emerson

Although there is no "thanksgiving day" in France, I made this acorn garland that reads "giving thanks" (rendre grâce) in French.

Having a tiny home, I cannot have one of those long tables, mine only seats four. But still, I am truly thankful for this simple setup.

And my favorite this time of the year...hot apple cider!

From Marie's Maison to your homes,
a peaceful and happy Thanksgiving day!!!
