My Life in a Tiffany Bleu House

I painted Marie's Maison Tiffany Bleu as a reminder that this is the best jewelry box I ever received!

Visual Merchandising

"Visual Merchandising" is an art form that I have yet to learn and master. Perhaps one of the best example who knows a great deal about visual merchandising is Anthropologie. Just look at this amazing display -

Why am I concerned about learning the art of visual merchandising? Well, the exciting news is that my space in Olde Ivy Antiques has now doubled. The challenge is merchandising it well, so my goods look attractive enough to those who visit it and buy a piece or two for their homes.
Here's my new space - it is bigger, but given some considerations and limitations, I can only do so much. Any thoughts?

Speaking of beautiful spaces and someone who is a talented and seasoned stylist, I visited a blogger friend's space (whom I admire) at Country Roads. The lovely Kate of Salvage Dior and moi finally met. She is one of those women who instantly makes one feel comfortable! We hugged as soon as we met and immediately we were chatting like we're best buds. She gave me some suggestions about what I could do with my new space. I picked up a few things from her and this hutch is one of them -

It's now in Marie's Maison, I changed the knobs and voila!

Thanks for checking out my new space at Olde Ivy's and appreciate any comments or input you want to share on how it could look better. Au revoir for now.

Hello! Just getting caught-up on your blog. :D Marie, I think your space looks great and CONGRATS! on doubling its size!!! AWESOME!!! I am so happy for your. I know y'all had a blast on your trip. We are visiting California this summer, and we can't wait! We are starting our trip in San Francisco, Monterey, Carmel, and then Big Sur. We might drive down the coast, but it depends how much time we spend up north!

I would have loved the Wicked Plants exhibit. It looks like so much fun! I think I am going to read it again now....

(((hugs))),

Bonjour Marie!
First of all, congrats on growing your space! If your space is anything at all like your home, the vinettes you create at home are amazing and you'll do just fine visually merchandising.

I, by no means, consider myself a Visual Merchandising expert but I can offer feedback based on the images of your space the the Anthropologie images.

Their images appear to be very 'quiet' upfront and all the 'noise' is in the back ground. When compared to the store front you have, with all the 'see through' space, it confuses my eye and I don't know where to look. Perhaps placing an opaque cloth, so as not to fully block the view of what is behind, would help calm the background noise.

As with the Anthropologie image, I'd use up more of your backwall space with items. There's lots of room (retail space) to merchandise and in order to ease shoppers' confusion, perhaps group like things (either clocks, shutters, like colors, signs, etc... together so there's some continuity).

Just my feedback, take it for what it's worth. It's just that I find my eyes getting tired when in the grocery store with all the selections to choose from that I literally go there as a last resort because it takes me too long to figure out what I want and find it.

I am sure you will succeed in making your store space shine like your home does, you are so talented.

Your shoppe is adorable! I think you've done an excellent job. I'd love to shop there if I lived closer. The only thing I could suggest would be to maybe soften it up a bit with some sheer white fabric. If you put some behind those two stands in the last picture, it would help to show off the items on them better. It's kind of hard to see them with everything in the background. Otherwise I love it!

I think you are selling yourself short...anyone who has had their home in a magazine knows how to arrange beautiful things. You're doing okay! Just enjoy all that new space it will fill up quickly.

Yes, I think on online shop would work well, especially for your smaller items. It may bring people in to the shop to by the larger items as well.
