Beach Mementos

We finally had our first full blown summer here in Carlsbad this weekend. Which means the beginning of the tourist season is here...welcome "Zonies" (our nickname for visitors from Arizona) which we get a lot. It's always such a joy for me people watching at the beach and I'm getting pretty good at differentiating the locals from tourists. Again, "bienvenue" and I hope you visit mon petite shop in Olde Ivy Antiques at the Village.

Here are some beach shots and a few shells I picked up this weekend to add to my collection.

Mon cheri...my ever hopeful fisherman

He's quite an expert catching these little guys...don't worry, we toss them back to the ocean.

Now that I have mon petite shop in Carlsbad Village, I often meet tourists visiting from all parts of the country, some even from France, which of course gets me so excited!

Because we live in a beach community, a some tourists like to take home our seashells or nautical mementos as souvenirs. What a coinkidink! I live here and I can't stop collecting shells. What is it about them that's irresistible?

Here's my growing collection...all picked up from walking at my local beach.

These little guys are my picks this weekend. Isn't that bleached sea rock amazing??? Looks like a pearl inside the big clam shell.

Again, I live here and still I buy touristy things like this hat decorated with shells and lace.

I think I'm gonna sell this jar half filled with collected shells so either a tourist or a local can just add to it. I might even add some kind of note or poem about the sea. Watcha think?

There's still a few days left to join my poll and giveaway. Don't miss it! Click on photo to join.

Looks like a typical glorious weekend in a Southern California beach community...you are very lucky to life in such a wonderful place...I am in a hot, dry, inland valley ~ yuck! But it is home; I like it, but I sure envy you your weather.(-: Have a great day!

I can never walk down the beach without picking up seashells either. I still have some I picked up when I was a child. It's just a part of you when you live there, isn't it? I never liked getting attacked by seaweed though :-)
Enjoy your weather!
Blessings,
Marcia

I love your beach photos Marie! You live in such a beautiful area and I love your seashell collection. If we had shells like that in Lake Michigan I would never stop collecting them either. :) I think that that would be a great idea for a tourist to buy your jar of shells and I think a poem or note would be a perfect momento. :)

Beautiful pictures Marie, the same happens to me, I live between pine trees and can't stop collecting pine cones, they have taken over my home, use them with scented oils. I think the jar with sea shells would be a great souvenir!
Have a great day!

I love the display of shells. I'm looking right now at my bottle of shells you sent me last year and thinking of the beaches and the ocean by your sweet little cottage. Thanks for sharing all this beauty.

Hello Marie!
I loved seeing your comment. It is pretty neat that we both posted about our coasts on opposite sides of the country. Your coast is gorgeous, with those waves and palm trees. And you've got a great seashell collection. Summer's the time to behave like a tourist, even if we're not. I bet you would love Martha's Vineyard & the Cape if you ever go. Let me know if you do & we can shop together! :)

Looks like heaven over there! I hope one day soon I get to live by the sea...I can't wait to be near the sounds and the smell of the ocean. Just praying that my husband finds a job to make the dream come true!

I love your idea about selling the jar half full and definately add a quote or a poem. I would buy it in a heartbeat!

Looks like your summer's off to a beautiful start ~ :)
