Alright, so we've all seen these antique apothecary bottles that have fossilized. They are usually from the 1800's to very early 1900's and are highly collectible. We use them as display items in our homes because of their charming appeal and character.

Well, at my latest flea market adventure, I met a man who actually hunt and dig looking for these buried treasure. He calls it an obscure hobby because he would literally knock on people's homes, show them a map from the 1800's and asks if he can dig under their property to look for buried bottles.

Hah...I can imagine how many slammed doors he gets for every one that says "sure, you can break through my concrete driveway, why not?"

Talk about a passionate hobby!

Speaking of treasures, here are a few more I found at the flea market...

I had to have this turquoise demitasse cup with grape background

Why...well it's made right here...in Californi"a"

Have you got any treasures you'd like to share? Would love to hear about it!

What a lovely collection of bottles you have, Marie. I can't imagine having that man's hobby, but I guess the treasures are worth it. :)

Marie, I think apothecary jars are so pretty...the way they reflect light and hold pretty things, like flowers. But, alas, I do not own any *sadface* Your little demitasse cups are too, too cute! Of course they match your adorable cottage! :D
This is such a pretty post, Marie. I don't really have any new treasures, although Mr. Art @ Home's grandmother gave me some cute little cream demitasse cups and saucers with pink roses and bright green leaves :D

I actually went on a bottle dig once in Jacksonville, FL. A friend's father was in an antique bottle club. They asked permission to dig for bottles on a site where a new college was to be built. The site had been a garbage dump back in the 1800's. They dug trenches about 3 feet deep, sifting the dirt as they went along. Every time someone found anything, everyone would jump out of their trench and run over to see the find. I found an old medicine bottle...which I treasure to this day. It is about 4 inches high, of amber glass. If you ever get a chance to go on a bottle dig...do it. I had so much fun.
As always great stuff Marie, I am inlove with the bottles how fascinating. Hope you are doing well my friend
xoxo

Hello Marie, nice to "see" you again! Your cups are gorgeous! I love the coloring so much. Your whole house is my color!
The bottles look fab in front of your clock faces. I do have a few of these bottles myself. What do you mean by "fossilized"?
What a fascinating hobby that man has! I think I would be thrilled if he wanted to dig in my yard, I would love to see him find things from the 1800s.
Hugs,
Terri

Hi Marie,
I love old bottles, don't have any old ones, but I'm saving all of the bottles where the scents for my soaps come, they are brown and white glass, but may be one day somebody is going to say "look at these bottles from 2010 & 2011, how cool they are, these are 100 years old" lol!
Have a great week my friend!

Dearest Marie,
What a delightful and most interesting array of Apothocary bottles!
Your various colours of bottles, as well as the story of the gentleman who collects them is most interesting as well..,
I especailly love the clocks, wispy grass, seashells, and peacock feathers amongst the bottle vignettes.
The subdued, sea-greeny, greyish blue of the teacups is most charming also!
Many thanks for joining me in the celebration of my 100th Tuesday Tea For Two and also our 71st Teapot And Tea Things Tuesday!
Cheers and hugs from Wanda Lee
I love your bottles, I too found some recently in an op shop for only a few dollars. I have ordered some hand painted labels for them. I will post the finished ones when they are done. I have posted the before photo's. I love your little cup too. x
Such an interesting about the "bottle hunter." The colors are so pleasing, aren't they?
